Grand Master Hélio Gracie defined courage as one of the most important virtues in a human being. This Memorial Day, the Valente Brothers would like to honor all the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives to defend this great nation and everything that it stands for. Thank you.

The new school will be just minutes away from the University of Miami
Valente Brothers was established in South Florida in 1995. After over a decade of success, maintaining the principles, ideals and methods that Grandmaster Hélio Gracie left for us, an affiliate program was designed to extend the Valente Brothers reach. With two affiliate schools up and running in Fort Lauderdale and Pembroke Pines, Valente Brothers is now returning down south to open our home in the city of Coral Gables. Back in 1995, Professor Pedro Valente founded his first Jiu-Jitsu club at the University of Miami where he taught several students and faculty members. The school located at 275 University Dr. is currently under construction and is scheduled to be open for classes this year.

Professor Jimmy Robertson will be leading the new affiliate.
Jimmy started learning Jiu-Jitsu from Professor Pedro Valente in 1993. Jimmy and Pedro’s friendship dates back to their high school days at the American School of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1993 both decided to enroll at the University of Miami where they became roommates. Influenced by Pedro’s love for Jiu-Jitsu and Royce’s amazing victories in the Ultimate Fighting Championship Jimmy was attracted by the Jiu-Jitsu philosophy. Soon Jimmy became one of Pedro’s most technical students. Jimmy’s loyalty, moral attributes and years of dedication combined with his technical abilities allowed him the opportunity to be the first person to take the Valente Brothers Instructors Course. In December of 2003 Professor Pedro Valente awarded Jimmy his Black Belt and instructor’s certification. Moreover, in 2007, Jimmy was awarded a Professor’s Diploma by Valente Brothers. Jimmy also holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems and Management of Information Systems.
This year’s summer Youth Fellowship Challenge (YFC) was once again a success. With boys and girls from North Miami Beach, Pembroke Pines and Fort Lauderdale, and nearly 200 parents and friends in attendance, it proved once again to be a winning experience for everyone involved. Professor Pedro Valente opened the challenge with a speech reminding all participants, parents, and friends of the fellowship and positive nature of the YFC. Professor Valente also explained that Jiu-Jitsu provides children with the ability to improvise based on the skills they acquire during training and that this ability is extremely valuable in many other areas of life.
As usual, the challenge was divided into two parts. Initially, the little champs and juniors took action and later Juniors 1 and 2 demonstrated their skills. A great attribute of the YFC is that it provides participants with the opportunity to perform under pressure in a safe and positive setting.
In closing, Professor Valente thanked all present and in special the parents who believe in the Valente Brothers youth program and continuously support the school.
Master Royler Gracie is the fifth son of Grandmaster Hélio Gracie and a 7th degree Red belt & Black Belt. Royler developed an amazing style that exemplifies leverage and technique.
On Sunday, May 20, our youth students will participate in the Summer Youth Fellowship Challenge. The YFC has been carefully designed to be a multi-cultural learning experience and to allow children the opportunity to exhibit their skills in an atmosphere of cooperation and respect for fellow participants. This event provides our students the opportunity to build confidence that will last a lifetime. To register, please contact our front desk by Thursday, May 17th.
Below, watch a special highlights clip of a previous YFC where over 100 young Jiu-Jitsu practitioners participated. The video was shot and cut by our purple belt student Eric Mainade. All students are invited to attend.

Your company faces a much bigger opponent. Is there a way to turn your competitor’s size into an advantage for you? Your fiercest rival is gaining momentum in the marketplace. How can you turn that energy against him? Your biggest competitor keeps beating you to the punch, cutting into your business with superior speed. What can you do to flip the situation around and win back your customers?
These are comon questions in business that can be answered using the Jiu-JItsu philosophy and strategy.
Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes winning in combat by using your opponent’s weight and strength as weapons against him, while preserving your own mental and physical energy. It embodies the principle that good technique can win out over sheer strength.
