Over 120 students attend the Annual Royce Gracie Seminar

For over two hours, the first Ultimate Fighting champion and Hall of Famer, Jiu-Jitsu master Royce Gracie, brought togehter approximately 120 students at a sold out seminar at Valente Brothers Headquarters in North Miami Beach, Florida.  As usual, Royce captivated students with his refined technique and efficient teaching skills, which in accordance with the philosophies of his father, Grandmaster Helio Gracie, consisted entirely of street practical strategies for defending oneself against bigger and stronger attackers.

Attending the seminar were students from VB headquarters in North Miami Beach, the Fort Laudedale, Pembroke Pines and Coral Gabes affiliates and several members of the Royce Gracie Network from all over the United States and abroad.

Professor Jimmy Robertson

Jimmy started learning Jiu-Jitsu from Professor Pedro Valente in 1993. Jimmy and Pedro’s friendship dates back to their high school days at the American School of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1993 both decided to enroll at the University of Miami where they became roommates. Influenced by Pedro’s love for Jiu-Jitsu and Royce’s amazing victories in the Ultimate Fighting Championship Jimmy was attracted by the Jiu-Jitsu philosophy. Soon Jimmy became one of Pedro’s most technical students. In December of 2003 Professor Pedro Valente awarded Jimmy his Black Belt and instructor’s certification. Jimmy’s loyalty, moral attributes and years of dedication combined with his technical abilities allowed him to be the only paerson to be awarded Valente Brothers Instructors Diploma.

Gui Valente in Switzerland

On Saturday, November 24th, Professor Gui Valente visited the Triangle Academy in Zurich and taught a special class to instructors and students of the Triangle Academy team.

The academy, open since 1995, is led by Black Belt Franco Vacirca and is located just minutes away from central Zurich. Franco follows the teaching methodology of the late Grandmaster Pedro Hemetério, one of Grandmaster Helio Gracie’s top disciples. Thi focus towards the roots of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is was what triggered the invitaion to bring the Valente Brothers method to Zurich.

The class taught by Professor Gui was an overview of traditional Gracie Jiu-JItsu and touched some of the fundamental principles of Self-Defense and the Helio Gracie fighting strategy and philosophy

Amazing weekend at Valente Brothers. On Saturday Valente Brothers Professors and Instructors had the honor of teaching the crew of the Navy ship USS Philippine Sea and on Sunday almost one hundred Valente Brothers’ students from Headquarters, Ft. Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines and Coral Gable participated in our biannual Youth Fellowship Challenge.

USS Philippine Sea (CG-58) is a Flight II Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser on active service in the United States Navy. She is named for the Battle of the Philippine Sea during World War II and is the second ship to bear the name. The Philippine Sea was the first U.S. or allied vessel to launch missiles against Saddam Hussein’s forces during the Gulf War in 1991. She has completed multiple deployments as part of Operation Enduring Freedom since 2001.

Purple Belt Pavel Bure was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame

Pavel Bure is recognised as one of the rarest talents in NHL history. Last night, November, 12, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. “I think it’s the biggest achievement you can get in hockey,” said Bure. “The selection committee combines everything you’ve done for hockey worldwide, so for me it’s a huge honor. It feels great.”  Nicknamed “The Russian Rocket” for his speed, Bure played for 12 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) at Valente Brothers, he was the fastest student to ever receive the Purple Belt. In 2010, he placed 3rd in the Hélio Gracie Challange.

As one of the best young Russian players in the world, Bure joined the Vancouver Canucks for the 1991-92 season. Bure’s amazing combination of elite speed, shooting accuracy, hands and athleticism allowed him to become on the best goal scorers hockey fans have ever seen.

After seven seasons with the Canucks, Bure was dealt to the Panthers, where he won back-to-back Rocket Richard Trophies as the league’s leading goal-scorer (he also led the league in goal scoring with Vancouver in 1993–94, before the trophy’s inauguration).

In 702 games during his 12 NHL seasons, Bure scored 437 goals with 342 assists for 779 career points. He scored 50-plus goals in a season five times and 30-plus goals seven times.

Royce Gracie in Miami December 8th

Royce Gracie will return to Miami after winning another title.

This year, voters from all over the world  chose Royce Gracie as the most revolutionary fighter of all time.

The poll was held at the UFC’s website and gave voters the opportunity to choose among four of the greatest fighters in the history of the Octagon, Royce Gracie, Anderson Silva, Matt Hughes and Chuck Liddell. 

Rorion Gracie’s Talk was a success

For over 3 hours Grandmaster Rorion Gracie interacted with students about the Gracie Diet and the Jiu Jitsu Lifestyle. Over 80 students attended the Talk. This was the first of a series of Talks that the first son of Helio Gracie and Red Belt will be doing around the country and internationally. All students, visitors, instructors and professors were extremely happy with the format and the great knowledge shared by Rorion. The Talk was extremely informative and motivational. Several students commented that they were leaving the school and heading straight to the supermarket to buy fruits and vegetables. Another student, a 11 year old orange belt, said that from now on he would never drink sodas again.

Valente Brothers on IstoE Gente magazine

Valente Brothers, through Professor Gui Valente was on this week’s Isto É Gente, the Brazilian version of People magazine. Featured on Fernanda Barbosa’s column, Gui gave healthy tips for Brazilian coming to Miami. The list inclued restaurants, art, the Farmers’ Market, and activities that the Miami lifestyle offer.
